Press release: There are almost 83 000 private persons with unsettled default payments

According to the Estonian Credit Register statistics, there are almost 83 000 private persons with unsettled payment defaults in Estonia and the total sum of unsettled payment defaults is 3.5 billion kroons. The situation regarding persons with payment defaults has stabilised over the last years and there have been no major changes. However, the average sums of payment defaults have increased considerably. 

According to the Estonian Credit Register statistics, 153 995 private persons have an entry about a payment default. 

In total, private persons have had 431 000 payment defaults; almost 60% of these i.e. 266 000 payment defaults have been settled. Private persons have 168 621 unsettled payment defaults and the total sum accounts for 3.5 billion kroons. On average, each indebted private person has 2 unsettled payment defaults and the mean sum is 20 527 kroons. 

There are almost 24 000 persons in the widely covered unsecured instant loans sector with unsettled payment defaults; one person often owes several small loan providers. 

Payment defaults in total: 431 294; 262 673 of these have been settled and 168 621 have not. 
153 995 people have payment defaults, 71 230 have settled the payment default. 
The total sum of unsettled payment defaults is 3 461 222 753 kroons. 
The total sum of settled payment defaults is 1 698 366 728 kroons. 

An official payment default is a debt, which is older than 45 days starting from the day after the due date and with interest and fine for delay is bigger than 500 kroons. In case of payment defaults, one must remember that settled debts will leave a mark in the register too; information is kept for 3-5 years. 

Private persons have the right to check information about them at the address www.e-seif.ee free of charge. As this is personal information, then using the environment requires identification of person. 

The Estonian Credit Register describes the credit history and payment practices of companies and private persons. The aim is to provide additional information for making credit decisions. The register is administered by AS Krediidiinfo.
